Medium By Design
This podcast centers mainly on mediumship (proving the existence of life after so-called death), presenting it as the ability to communicate with the consciousness of those whose physical body has "died", and connects this to subjects of grief, healing, and spirituality.
Host, Barb Mallon - a Psychic Medium, Tarot Consultant and Mentor with over 26 years of experience - shares personal insights and stories from her practice. She emphasizes that intuitive or psychic abilities aren’t limited to only a chosen few, that others can also learn to connect with spiritual realms and experience very real connections.
Beyond mediumship, the podcast expands into broader metaphysical topics. Barb discusses guidance practices like Tarot, as well as the energies of gemstones and crystals for emotional and spiritual well-being.
Drawing from her 12+ years as a silversmith, she also explores the symbolic meanings of different materials, including gemstones, crystals, silver and gold, and how they are used in spiritual or energetic work.
Overall, the podcast blends personal experience with metaphysical beliefs, framing spirituality as something both accessible and deeply intertwined with everyday life and healing.

I am so happy you're here and look forward to having you follow along. Now let's get started. Hello. Thanks so much for joining me for drumroll. Episode one of my podcast, Medium by Design. I'm so excited. Um, but first, please bear with me. I just had some dental surgery done last week and I'm temporarily missing two of my bottom teeth, so I might sound a little funny for a while until I get them replaced. Just an infection, but you know, here I am, your toothless psychic medium starting a podcast. Woohoo! So, to be honest, I have been struggling to figure out how to start this podcast. Like, what do I say in episode one? It has to be big. Well, because it's episode one, I went back and forth and back and forth, and you know, I finally just decided just to dial it back. I thought, let's just start at the beginning with an intro, and then we'll talk about the stories and other fun topics later in the podcasts. So that's what I'm going to do. I am guessing that most of the people listening to this are my clients from the last two plus decades. Um, people who follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and those who've taken my classes, been to my demonstrations and hotels and different things like that. I am so thankful for you guys, first of all. I have had clients from years ago pop up for a session and I'll say, Oh, hi, um, nice to meet you. Have you ever had a mediumship session before? And they're like, Yeah, you did my session back in 2005, 2010. Um, and I always feel badly for not recognizing some people, but I do a lot of sessions, but I have just I'm always blown away that people come back and they refer their friends and family to me. So I am just super grateful. So thank you so much. Uh, for those who do not know me, here is a little background. My name is Barb Mallon. I have been a professional psychic medium for over 26 years. I've read for clients all over the world. I have done my sessions over the phone, on Zoom, video, and also in person in my Northern Virginia office. On that last note, I am not doing in-person sessions right now, but I do have plenty of sessions available over phone and video, and they work exactly in the same way. I have participated in blind studies with the University of Virginia. I've worked with the Discovery Channel and their production of Everything You Need to Know.the Supernatural. And that was recorded at the Po House in Baltimore, Maryland. So much fun. Um, I was also featured on News Channel 9 in DC and lots and lots of radio stations around the country. So it's been fun to say the least. So, why am I starting this podcast? Well, I love teaching and I love showing people that every single person is intuitive. It's not just for a few selected special people. And I just heard you say that. Well, obviously, not me. Yes, you. Everybody has intuitive abilities. They're just lying dormant within you, and you just have to reawaken them and remember what you already know. Now, there are different degrees of one's gifts, but that doesn't mean you can't go and learn to enhance and strengthen your own abilities. Being more intuitive is always a good thing, and it can only help you in your day-to-day life. So why not try to enhance those? Think of it as if you're going to a gym or not going to a gym. Your muscles are not going to build themselves. You have to put the work into it. I've heard it compared to playing the piano. Yes, you can learn to play, but will you be a concert pianist? Probably not. But to some, it just comes more naturally than to others. And that said, we're all equipped with intuitive abilities, and we can either let them be dormant or we can read, learn, practice, and open ourselves up to it more. So my hope is to inspire you to open intuitively to at least help you navigate this crazy thing called life. Oh, and I also have some pretty cool stories to talk about from my almost 30 years of working in this field. Oh my gosh, haunted hotels we've stayed in, uh, experiences in my own home because we live so close to the Manassas battlefield, things my kids have experienced here, cool readings, etc. Oh. I will also be talking about my second love, which is working with sterling silver and beautiful gemstones. I really love making talismans for people. Uh every gemstone and crystal is special. So I'd love to give it a pretty home so you can wear them with intent. And before I forget, I wanted to thank all of you who sent in subjects or questions for topics for future podcasts. I am so grateful. There are so many great ideas you guys have. So I really appreciate it. And um, look for your topic in one of the upcoming podcasts. So I'm going to start with one of my first otherworldly etheric or just plain weird experiences. So if you read stories from some other mediums in their books or things, you'll see that many have had some kind of sudden trauma event that caused their abilities to ramp up or I guess even just start. I know one medium who was in a severe car accident, another had a near-death experience, I think, another had a serious illness, and so on. I personally think I had one of those kinds of experiences, but also a series of traumatic events where I learned and needed to go away to another place in my mind. My biological mother, we'll call her Lynn, was physically, emotionally, and mentally abusive to me. So I remember distinctly creating these little magical places, both in the physical and etheric world around our apartment. Um, I made little pretend forts and cottages on my patio and nearby woods. I pretended to be Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, or a deer with my two silver batons as front legs. Don't laugh at that. Or a bunny hopping around. I basically shape-shifted in a way into anything that just to be away from my volatile and unstable life with my mother. I " went away" and I lived a different life, if only for a few hours or minutes at a time. What's really interesting to me is that, quote, going away, unquote, is comparable to what I do now when I'm connecting to spirit. It's like a daydream. I've left my brain in physical mode and my consciousness just takes over. I was kind of training without knowing I was training. It's slightly different scenario, but it's really close. So is this when it happened? I don't know. The first memory I have of what I did not understand, but obviously was some kind of a higher power thing, happened to me when I was like eight or nine. My parents had divorced, and I was living with my mother and my sister, who is four years younger than me. We will call her Sherry. So I was home from school for a while. I was sick with something, I don't know what it was. Um, and I know I had a really high fever, but I had the most intense headache I have ever had. And I don't really remember much except that I was so much in pain. My neck on the left was really swollen where the lymph node is, and no one could really figure out what was wrong with me. The swollen lymph node was huge. Sherry and I never got along. We fought constantly, and I honestly don't remember us really ever getting along, to be honest. Maybe here or there sometimes. But anyway, we were fighting about something, of course, and she just chucked this Fisher Price fir at me, right at me, which hit me in my head so hard that I just collapsed in my twin bed. I could not move. So, well, I have to say it wasn't really her fault. She just wanted to throw something at me, and she did, and she had good aim. Well done, Sherry. Uh so anyway, my mom knew that something was up, so she took me to the hospital. They admitted me and they ran tests. I remember I was out of school for a while, I think two weeks. Uh, my classmates made cards, and I think someone brought them to me, a whole bunch of little cards and little gifts and plants and things like that. I also remember I was in a unit where two Washington Redskins came by to see all the sick kids and they stopped by my bed. Uh, Charlie Taylor and Chris Hamburger. Thanks to my husband for helping me to remember Charlie Taylor's name. I could not remember, but I do remember Chris Hamburger because, well, hamburger. That's what I thought his name was when I was little. So um they signed a mini football for me, and I wish I knew where that was now because it was really cool. So my left side was about as swollen as that mini football. Um, no one knew what it was. I had a spinal tap, nothing. Uh I remember them being really worried, but that's really all I remember. Just those weird things. One morning I woke up in the hospital and I noticed this really weird thing on the ceiling. It was so structured, it was sparkly, it was clear, it was precise, it was built. I have no idea why I thought this, but I knew it was some kind of higher power or some kind of higher being. It was a feeling of a panel of higher power beings. It was electrical. I can't really explain it, but somehow I knew they were angelical beings. Even though I didn't see figures of them, I knew they were angelical beings or some kind of a high council or something. That said, my mother and father were not religious at all. My grandparents may have been, but they never really expressed any of that with me. So there wasn't any kind of religious background I had with archangels or all of that stuff. I remember not being scared at all. Um, these were, these were like straight line designs that went together on the ceiling, in the corners, in the crevices, in different patterns. I remember that they were in charge somehow and super comforting to me. It was just so weird. They kept aligning in different lines along the ceiling. It would go left, it would go right, it would reform itself. I mean, I was mesmerized. I eventually recovered from that weird thing. I wish my parents were alive now to tell me what the heck that was that happened to me. I'm guessing it was some kind of an infection that went into my lymph nodes and my neck. Um, I only remember the gifts and the redskins and the spinal tap part. So, but why the electrical angelical symbols? They were so symmetrical. Sometimes I still get a glimpse of them on the wall in the lines and corners where I saw them before, just kind of moving around, but it's very rare. So this may have been that one weird thing that did happen to me that opened me up or at least showed me that there was some other amazing realm. Or was it that series of traumatic events from when I was little? Maybe both. I'm not sure, but I will tell you this: something very, very similar happened to me around age 35, and that will be in a story in another podcast. It was so amazing. It was scary, yes, but it was so amazing. And we will call the episode spiderwebs. Do you have a similar life-changing event or story? How did that story or stories open up your awareness and intuitiveness? For me, I eventually became a professional psychic medium and really wanted to help people to connect to their loved ones who had passed away. This will also be in a future podcast. So I hope you will join me next week where I talk more about my weird experiences and the pull that one gets to learn more and to evolve psychically, intuitively, and just open up. Maybe you'll be able to relate. And I hope it helps you to make you feel not so alone out there. Okay, so it's that time of the podcast at the very end. We're going to pull a collective tarot card. So this is for everybody. If you're listening to this, this reading is for you too. Okay, I'm going to shuffle for a little bit and we're going to ask, what does our soul need to know at this time? What does our soul need to know at this time for the week coming up? The star card comes up reversed. So normally the star card means that we just need to be ourselves. We um, you know, we are we are who we are. We are out there. In the picture, there is a naked lady with one foot in the water and one foot, one foot on land. Um, this is a balance between intuitiveness and being stable and practical. Um, she has the star over her head. She is pouring water into the into the water, and she's pouring water onto the earth. So there's a lot of harmony and balance here. Reverse means that maybe we're afraid of showing our true selves. Maybe we're afraid to be who we are. Um maybe we're worried that someone's going to think less of us or think we're too much or whatever that is. This card shows that we or just helps us to remember that we are special in our own right and we are wonderful beings, and there's nothing wrong with you. And if people think there is, they're not going to be in your circle. And you always want to surround yourself with the people and energies that support and uplift you and afford you possibilities. So if there's people that are not doing that, we need to just not let them in as much as you, you know, can. But yes, so that's the star card. Anyway, I hope you all had a uh fun time listening to this. I know it's a little kind of choppy here and there because I haven't done a podcast before, but we will see you next week when we talk about something else special and weird and wacky. I don't know. Anyway, thanks so much for tuning in. And until next week, be well.
